Coach Geo's number ONE advice
Playing with your head up
Playing soccer with your head up is crucial for several reasons.
Firstly, it allows you to scan the field and identify potential threats and opportunities, such as open space or a teammate in a better position. Scanning helps players to make quick decisions once they receive the ball. It is a fundamental skill that is often overlooked but can make a significant difference in a player’s performance on the field .
Secondly, playing with your head up helps you to maintain better control of the ball. When you look down at the ball, you lose sight of your surroundings and are more likely to lose possession of the ball. By keeping your head up, you can see where your teammates are and where the defenders are, which helps you to make better decisions about where to pass or dribble the ball.
Finally, playing with your head up can help you to avoid injuries. When you look down at the ball, you are more likely to collide with other players or trip over the ball . By keeping your head up, you can see where other players are and avoid collisions.
In summary, playing soccer with your head up is essential for scanning the field, maintaining better control of the ball, and avoiding injuries. I hope this helps!
